The Commandant General (CG) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi has disbanded the anti-vandal unit of the Rivers State Command.
This development followed allegations by the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, who said that the anti-vandal unit is complicit in the operations of illegal refineries and oil bunkering in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by the Director of Public Relations, NSCDC, Olusola Odumosu titled, ‘NSCDC Boss Disbands the Anti-Vandal Unit of Rivers State Command.’
The statement reads, “He (Audi) said that the extant rules and regulations guiding the NSCDC operations and the general ethics of the service require a complete display of total discipline, integrity, incorruptibility, transparency, and accountability on the part of every Corps personnel, hence, the reason for his immediate action.
“He further directed the Acting DCG in charge of investigation and intelligence to summon all the personnel involved to the National Headquarters, Abuja, for further investigation to determine the level of involvement and or culpability with a view to dispensing justice appropriately.”
The statement also said that any personnel found guilty would face necessary disciplinary actions and punishment because the allegations are not in tandem with CG’s vision for the Corps.
The CG assured the Governor of Rivers State that he would get to the root of the matter without delay and also promised more synergy with the state government.
