The Centre for Social Justice, Equity, and Transparency (CESJET) has called on President Buhari to give his assent to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Trust Fund Bill that was just passed into law by the National Assembly to give it legal backing. CESJET Executive Secretary, Isaac Ikpa made the call on behalf of the group yesterday in Abuja while briefing newsmen saying the bill if become law is capable of bringing prosperity to the Nigerian youth.
In his statement which partly reads; “It is instructive to mention that the provisions of the NYSC-TF are well-intentioned and positioned to address the challenges faced by the teeming youthful population in the country.
“Youth empowerment can curb the rate of poverty to a large extent. One of the keys to empowering the youth is skill development. When youth is equipped with essential skills, they can use them to feed, assist others, and even invest for future use, aiding the nation economically.
According to Mr. Ikpa, an empowered youth may not necessarily wait for the government to create employment opportunities but will rather create them for themselves and that will lead to their financial freedom and the economy of the country at large.
Meanwhile, he disclosed that he was optimistic that President Buhari will consider the bill after a thorough examination while calling on the youth to keep hope high in the country.
