Gunmen have reportedly killed about nine persons and injured others in Maikatako community of Buturu District in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State. It was gathered that the assailants invaded the community on Wednesday morning about 1am, shooting sporadically and burning homes. Eye witness account revealed that residents were still trying to ascertain the exact figures and the identities of those who lost their lives, as the victims including women and children who were said to be from the same family were burnt beyond recognition.

Spokesman of Plateau Police Command Alfred Alabo, while confirming the incident said the Police were aware of the attack and that their men are on top of the situation and are going after the assailants.

Alabo promised to avail more information about the attack, as details were still sketchy.

“It is true that an incident happened there, the DPO there responded with his team and were able to push back the bandits but some people sustained injuries and were taken to hospital.

“As of yesterday, about seven people with gunshot wounds were taken to the hospital, our men are still tracing the bandits so I can’t reach the DPO on phone for an update. I don’t want to give inaccurate information but once I speak with the DPO about the death of some people, I will let you know,” Alabo explained.
