The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba has transferred over 3,980 arms, 2,358 assorted ammunition, and 1,057 assorted cartridges to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). The handing-over ceremony took place on Thursday at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The IGP who was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Finance and Administration), Mohammed Dan-Malam stated that the weapons were recovered from criminals and other non-state actors by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) during various operations nationwide.
According to him, the recovered arms include 2 locally-made Anti-Aircraft (AA) guns, 16 locally-made rocket launchers, 7 Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), 46 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs), and 98 locally-made double barrel guns.
Others were 146 pump action guns, 265 automatic rifles, 1,500 locally-made single barrel guns, and 1,909 locally fabricated pistols.
