The Nigerian Army has said that the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency has been largely won based on the morale of the troops involved in Operation Lafiya Dole.
Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major-General Rogers Nicholas stated this in a press briefing Wednesday, on the successes recorded so far.
Operation Lafiya Dole is an operation launched by the Nigerian Army in fighting the terrorists that have wreaked havoc in the troubled North East region.
“Sadly, in this joint operation, we have lost three gallant soldiers. Three were wounded during the operation and have been evacuated by the Air Task Force and are responding to treatment,” Nicholas said on Wednesday.
Rogers took over from his predecessor, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru, as the head of the joint operation in December.
According to a slide by the military, the operation that also involves aerial bombardment support from the Nigerian Air Force indicated the Boko Haram casualty since December.
In the offensive against the terrorists, the troops were able to kill 186 terrorists and recovered 49 gun trucks, 14, AK-47 rifles, 19 Hilux vehicles, 13 pick-up vehicles, 14 Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs).
Others include 4 Toyota Buffalo, 3 water tankers, 3 canter trucks, 3 yellow bucket trucks among generator plants, cash, fertilizers, cylinders among several others.
According to the Army General, troops have occupied the heart of Camp Zairo, in the Sambisa forest in Borno State in further clearance operations.
He added, “Currently as I speak, our troops are at the heart of Camp Zairo and its environs. We are combing every inch of the Camp Zairo, carrying out clearance operations to ensure that every member of the Boko Haram in the forest is rooted out.”
