The Nigerian Government has declared three days of public holiday ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. These work-free days are; Friday, 25th Dec. 2020; Monday 28th Dec. 2020, and Friday, 1st January 2021 respectively.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr. Shuaibu M.L Belgore made this statement known this afternoon in Abuja to celebrate the yuletide of Christmas and the New Year.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Interior, Abdulrauf Aregbesola signed the statement on behalf of President Buhari, while enjoining the Christendom to emulate the person of Jesus through love and compassion.
Aregbesola called on Nigerians to remain focused, determined with hope, and to remain patriotic hoping that next year would be another opportunity to make it better, urging the Christian faithful to seize the opportunity to pray for the country in its varying security problem confronting Nigeria.
The Minster in his statement which partly reads; “We must emulate the life of humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness that the birth and ministry of Jesus Christ signified, that will be the best way to know Christ and celebrate his birth.
“The Minister who reiterated the Federal Government’s avowed commitment to the fight against armed banditry, kidnappings and other crimes and criminalities in the country, called on Nigerians to support the efforts of the security agencies by providing them with information that will enhance intelligence gathering.”
The Minister wished the Nigerians especially the Christian faith a merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.
