Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has called on the Nigerian security agencies to arrest Bishop Mathew Kukah for interrogation over his insightful coup comment against the government of President Buhari. Last Friday, Kukah, a bishop of Sokoto Catholic diocese accused President Buhari of nepotism and at the same time calling for a coup against the government.

In his statement, Kukah said there could have been a coup if a non-northern president did a fraction of what Buhari is currently doing against Nigerians.

However, Yerima Shettima, the national president of the youth forum said bishop Kukah’s comments were inciting and a “treasonable felony against the Nigerian state”.

Shettima accused the bishop of using “nepotism as a weapon of calumny against government and people of Nigeria,” and also a design tactically to set the southern region against their northern counterpart and destabilize the fragile peace Nigeria is currently enjoying.

According to Shettima, “Such a reckless statement by Kukah betrays something much more sinister against both the North and the nation as a whole because Nigeria is at a stage that it requires responsible advice for attaining peace and stability, not deliberate attempt to mischievously compound our problems,”

The Arewa youth forum president advised the bishop that if he wants to participate in politics he should leave the pulpit to men of God and join the political train in a party of his choice, saying now that 2023 is around the corner, the bishop is free to contest for the presidency and forget this his pretence.

He reminded bishop Kukah of the struggle Nigerians went through to kick the military out of power, cautioning that he shouldn’t drag Nigerians back to status co.

Shettima concluded “We will not allow opportunists who did make any contribution to scuttle the democracy achieved through the sweat and toil and the sacrifice of our liberty,”
