Muslim Faithful in Nigeria on Tuesday joined their counterparts across countries in the world to celebrate the 2021 Eid-El kabir. The prayers across the nation were observed with strict adherence to the COVID-19 protocols. The President, Muhammadu Buhari, joined his kinsmen in Daura, Katsina State to observe the Muslim Eid-el-Kabir prayers. The prayers which took place at the Kofar Arewa Prayer ground were led by the Chief Imam of the town, Alhaji Safiyanu Yusuf. In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Muslims converged on the Abuja National Eid Ground to observe the three Rak’at. The FCT Minister, Mohammed Bello, who was on ground to observe the prayers admonished residents of the nation’s capital to be law-abiding, security conscious, and united. Mr. Bello also said the FCT administration will continue to stress the need for residents to observe COVID-19 protocols, especially in the face of a third wave of the pandemic. The Imam of the National Mosque Abuja, Dr Muhammad Kabir Adam, who led the prayer urged Muslims to imbibe the virtues of self-sacrifice, obedience to God, and love for humanity as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim. He urged them to share part of the meat of whatever they have slaughtered with those in need.
Former Sokoto state governor and Senate Committee on Defence Chairman Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko in his Sallah message said he believes that tolerance, love, respect for one another, and fervent prayers are some of the most plausible ways out of Nigeria’s current difficulties.
In his message signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, Senator Wamakko said effort is required from all the peace loving and law abiding citizens to renew their belief in unity, indivisibility, and socioeconomic development of the country.
Yesterday President Buhari in his Sallah, stressed the need for Muslims to live in harmony with Nigerians of other faiths while praying for the progress of the country. He also admonished prayers for the progress of Nigeria at all times.
President Buhari reiterated the determination of his administration to create a just, harmonious and prosperous country in which the safety of lives and property is assured.
“Let us expose undesirable elements among us who are creating security problems for the country,” he added.
Also in their Sallah messages, the Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Lawan; the Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Tinubu, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), called on Nigerians to pray for peace, unity, and development of the country.
