ICPC: President Buhari Seeks Senate Confirmation of 7 Nominees

President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking the Senate’s confirmation for the reappointment of 7 Board Members of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), adding that the request for a confirmation is in accordance with provisions of section 3(3) and 7 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. The President’s request which was contained in a letter was read during Tuesday’s plenary by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan.

Gunmen Attack INEC Office In Enugu, Kill Police Officer

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Enugu south LGA has been attacked by gunmen. INEC national commissioner and chairman, information and voter education committee, Festus Okoye, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, said attackers who came around 9:12pm on Sunday could not gain access to the main building due to the “rapid response from the police and army personnel.” During the attack the security gatehouse of the office was razed down. One of two police officers deployed to protect the facility was killed while another sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.

President Muhammadu Buhari clocked 80 years old today December, 17, and distinguished Nigerians, including former president Goodluck Jonathan, former vice president Atiku Abubakar, All Progressives Congress’ (APC) Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, extoled his virtues in goodwill messages. Former President Jonathan praised President Buhari saying he has had an exceptional opportunity of leading the country twice, both as a military Head of State and civilian President, and prayed for God’s guidance and protection as he pilots the affairs of the nation in the remaining months of his administration. The former President stated: “I am delighted to felicitate you on the occasion of your 80th birthday. I join your family, friends and other well-wishers to thank God for the gift of life and the strength to pilot the affairs of this nation for the past seven and a half years.

2023: Cardinal Onaiyekan Cautions politicians Against Election Rigging

His Grace, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, has cautioned politicians against any attempt to rig the forthcoming general elections. “With the current yearnings of the people for a better country, the election will no longer be business as usual,” Onaiyekan said on Saturday during the celebration of his 40th anniversary as Bishop, at the Holy Trinity Church, Maitama, Abuja.

FG Appoints Acting DG NYSC

The Federal Government (FG) has appointed Christy Uba as the Acting Director-General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) following the removal of her predecessor, Brigadier General Muhammad Fadah by President Muhammadu Buhari. This was made known on Tuesday by the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa in a statement titled, ‘Mrs. Uba to oversee NYSC pending the appointment of substantive Director-General’.
