INEC Suspends Rerun Elections In Enugu, Kano, Akwa Ibom

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has suspended the ongoing rerun elections in specific constituencies in Enugu, Kano and Akwa Ibom States due to disruptions, irregularities and abduction of election officials. The affected areas are Enugu South 1 State Constituency, Enugu State, Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency, Akwa Ibom State and Kunchi/Tsanyawa State Constituency, Kano State.

The Supreme Court has affirmed the victory of Ahmadu Fintiri as the duly elected Governor of Adamawa State. The Court on Wednesday dismissed an appeal by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of Adamawa state in the March 18 governorship election, Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani and her party seeking to unseat Umar Ahmadu Fintiri as the duly elected Governor of Adamawa State.

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Ovie Omo-Agege, former deputy senate president, challenging the election of Sheriff Oborevwori as Delta State governor. In March 2023, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oborevwori, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner of the governorship election held on March 18. Aggrieved by the outcome of the poll, other candidates, including Omo-Agege, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ken Pela of the Labour Party (LP) and Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), filed separate petitions before the governorship tribunal.

Over 4.6million Voters Expected In Rerun, Bye-Elections In 26 States - INEC

A total of 4,613,291 voters are expected to participate in the upcoming re-run and bye-elections set to hold in 26 states of the Federation on Saturday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed. According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, made the disclosure when he led a delegation to the Headquarters of the Nigerian Air Force in Abuja on Monday to request the NAF’s assistance to deliver election materials to three locations in the North-East, South-East and South-West where the election will be taken place.

Just In: FG Inaugurates National Minimum Wage Committee

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally inaugurated a 37-man Tripartite Committee to fashion out a new National Minimum Wage. Vice President, Kashim Shettima inaugurated the committee on behalf of the President, who is on a private visit to France. Former Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Bukar Goni Aji, is chairing the Committee. Shettima who charged them to ensure the timely submission of their recommendations, said the decision to set up the committee is a recognition of the need to ensure a decent living wage and in compliance with the existing National Minimum Wage Act of 2019 which will expire in a few months from now. The VP also urged collective bargaining in good faith, stressing contract adherence and encouraging consultations outside the committee. Membership of the committee cuts across the Federal Government, state government, private sector, and organised labour.
