Humanitarian Workers Pull Out Of IDPs Camp In Maiduguri

Humanitarian workers have pulled out of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital. The decision followed the outbreak of violence in the camp during a protest by the IDPs over the quantity of food brought in for distribution.

The Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil and Gas, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah who contested the Anambra state gubernatorial primaries on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he had sued the party over alleged irregularities in the conduct of the exercise that produced Oseloka Obaze as the winner.  The aggrieved Ubah stated this in Awka while addressing the panel that conducted the exercise.

The United Nations humanitarian agency, the World Food Programme (WFP) on Monday said it had suspended food distribution at Gubio Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri, following a violent attack on humanitarian workers by the displaced persons. Mr Adedeji Ademigbuji, the WFP’s Communication officer, disclosed this in Short Service Messages (SMS) sent to newsmen in Maiduguri.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has ignored a critical meeting with the Federal Governement to negotiate ways of ending the impasse of the ongoing nationwide strike. The president of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi, confirmed that the union will not attend the meeting stating that the union has met and forward a new proposal to the Federal Government for consideration.

The Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie said those seeking the repatriation of the former Minister of Petroleum and Resources from the United Kingdom are exhibiting 'mumu-ness', lacking basic understanding of how corruption cases are handled in the UK. The Presidential aide who made this known on Tuesday in a series of tweet on her verified handle said the move was a clear demonstration of ignorance and called on the protesters to make findings before embarking on such actions.

The Federal Government will today meet aggrieved leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) as part of efforts to resolve the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Union. The meeting was announced on Monday in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Press in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Samuel Olowookere.
