The Gombe State House Assembly has suspended four members of the All Progressive Congress for four legislative days, because of their involvement in the snatching of the mace of the state legislature and taking it away. The member who took the mace away, Abdullahi Abubakar,

was assisted by three other members during an impeachment process against the Minority Leader, Ahmed Usman Haruna, whom the party members were angry with for granting a press Conference against the process of the party’s Ward Congress on May 5.

According to the Majority Leader and House Committee Chairman on Information, Mr. Fabulous Amos, the Gombe State House of Assembly evoked a section of the standing orders of the assembly and applied it to sanction the erring members.

Mr. Amos however said the suspended members would be given a fair hearing by the Ethics and Privileges Committee, where the case has already been referred to for further investigations and reported back by Monday, May 28.

“Constitutionally based on the Standing Orders of the Gombe House of Assembly, we have section 65, sub section 1 to 7, which deal with such misbehaviours. And like we have collectively decided, based on that section that gives us the power to suspend an honorable member who engages himself in that particular act.”

“We evoked that particular section and applied it to them, we have suspended them for four legislative four legislative days and not only suspending them for four legislative days.”

“We have agreed to give them a fair hearing. We have referred the case to the Ethics and Privileges Committee, to investigate and report back to the house by Monday for further action,” said Mr. Amos.

The Gombe State House of Assembly has 24 members and dominated by the People’s Democratic Party with the All Progressives Congress having eight members out of it.

However, it seems some of the All Progressives members were not pleased with the Minority Leader, Ahmed Usman Haruna, who was reported to have held a press conference on May, 5, soon after the Ward Congress, where he condemned process of the Ward Congress of the All Progressives Congress in the State, hence the process for his impeachment..

The House Committee Chairman on Information, Mr. Amos said the development led to a commotion, which subsequently led to the snatching of the mace.

The suspended members are Abdullahi Abubakar, Mohammed Bello, Ibrahim Sadiq Ahmed and Walid Mohammed.

However, the case of the missing mace has been reported to the security agencies, so that the culprit would be apprehended and the mace recovered.
