The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the collection of the Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) has been moved toward registration centres across the country. Festus Okoye, chairman, information and voter education committee of the commission disclosed this on Friday at a weekly meeting following the request from general public “wards will be in charge of the collection exercise between January 16 and 21” Premium Times.
Okoye declared, “Collection of the Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) by members of the public which is currently in progress at the Commission ‘s Local Government Offices will be moved to the 8,809 Registration Areas/Wards from l6th to 21st January 20l9 across the nation (including weekends),”
The Continues Voter Registration (CVR) exercise which the commission carried out between April 27, 2017, to August 31, 2018, which registered 14,283,734 new voters across the nation.
Subsequently, the commission added, it has printed the PVCs of the newly registered voters and had already delivered them to various states; however, there are some complaints from members of the public over the bureaucratic process of collecting same.
Meanwhile, the commission advised members of the public to visit their various registration centres and utilised the opportunity before it will be subsequently reverted back to the Local govt INEC offices and others designated centres to be determined by the states until February 8.
The commission recently displayed the updated voter’s registration register indicating 84million registered voters. Meanwhile, the commission at the end promised to give an account of the numbers of PVCs collected in the spirit of transparency.
