Former Director General of Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET), Dr Anthony Anuforom has urged the Federal Government to review its climate resilience system, NAN Reports. He made the statement yesterday, during the 2019 Seasonal Rainfall Prediction (SRP) presentation in Abuja.
The SRP is an annual public presentation where the agency provides critical climate information and advisories to all stakeholders in order to minimize potential risks and damages.
This year's edition of the SRP which was themed "Be Weather Ready, Be Climate Smart", indicated that below normal to normal rainfall will be witnessed in many places. However, the occurrence of flash flood should not be discarded.
Anuforom said the building codes, methodologies, and technologies used in Nigeria should also be reviewed to give room for improvement and enable infrastructures to withstand climate change, particularly rainfall pattern.
He commended the NiMET management for the sustained improvement of the SRP, saying the spatial resolution now covers the 774 local government areas in the country.
