A State High Court in Yola has prevented the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from conducting the supplementary governorship election on March 23 in Adamawa State.
According to The Nation, Justice Abdulaziz Waziri, the presiding judge granted an interim injunction which banned INEC from the conduct of the supplementary polls in the 44 polling units, where voting was either canceled or did not hold during the March 9 governorship election.
The judgment followed a suit filed by Rev Eric Theman, the Governorship Candidate of the Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRRD), who queried the omission of his party logo from the ballot papers.
The Governorship election in Adamawa is among the six states which were declared inconclusive or suspended by INEC. This was because the margin lead between the APC and PDP candidates in the state was more than the number of canceled votes.
This according to the INEC guidelines results to the declaration of the election inconclusive.
However, Theman has since then said he would reject any result announced by the commission, as his party’s logo was not reflected on the ballot papers. This he said hindered his supporters to exercise their right.
