The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has debunked the claim by the opposition party PDP, its Presidential candidate, and some few alleged witnesses that election results were transmitted electronically.
The INEC chairman revealed that there were too many challenges that hindered the empire from transmitting election result electronically.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar were challenging the outcome of the February 2019 presidential election at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), claiming they won the election on a purported server into which they claimed is owned by INEC.
At the resumption of the proceedings at the PEPT on Tuesday, lawyer to President Muhammadu Buhari, Alex Izinyon (SAN), played a video, where INEC Chairman was saying his commission could not transmit results electronically because of challenges ranging from inadequate communication facilities/coverage in the country and also the challenge of cybersecurity.
Izinyon further tendered another digital video disc (DVD) containing an interview Prof.Yakubu granted to a private television station, where he gave details of the challenges of transmitting results electronically.
The DVD was admitted as Exhibit: P85, while the certificate of compliance, tendered with it, was admitted as Exhbit: P86.
