President Muhammadu Buhari has on Wednesday, argued that there is no law in the Nigerian constitution that requires him to tender any of his certificates in a bid to prove his eligibility to run for Presidency.
President Buhari insisted that considering the 1999 constitution as amended, the law only required him to be educated.
This submission was tendered through his lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun SAN, while tendering his final brief of argument against the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar seeking to disqualify President Buhari against contesting in the recent February 2019 General election.
Buhari prayed the Tribunal to strike out the petitioners request challenging his educational qualification because it lacks merit.
He posited the law is crystal clear about the qualification, stressing that the second respondent (Buhari) cannot go beyond the requirement of the 1999 constitution section 131 and 131(8) as amended.
“The case-law is replete with decisions of this Court on the subject. We cannot amend the constitution.
Meanwhile, we need to put the record straight, that at this point that the Constitution and laws of the land do not expect any Certificate to be tendered or attached.”
