A group of lawyers threatened litigation against banishing the dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II against his fundamental Human Right, the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Ibrahim Mukhtar on behalf of the state government has denied the banishment of the Emir, blaming it on security agencies.
Mukhtar claimed that when the pronouncement was made by the Secretary to the state government, Usman Alhaji, dethroning the Emir, banishment was not mentioned.
The Attorney General, however, in a twist said the banishment was taken as a measure to safeguard his safety, peace and avoidance of friction.
Persistently, Mukhtar denied that it was not the decision of the state government of governor Ganduje to banish Emir Sanusi but the security Agencies decision.
During a chat, he noted that that the security operatives who whisked the dethroned Emir away from the Kano palace to his current location in Nassarawa State were acting in tune with the prevailing security circumstances but not with the directive of the governor.
He kicks against allegations by counsel to the former Emir, A. B. Mahmoud, SAN who claimed that the fundamental human rights of the deposed Emir were been infringed upon, stressing that the state government solely executed an administrative role.
The Commissioner of Justice further explained that the Security agents were only acting with what is obtainable while urging the counsel to the deposed Emir to contact the security to explain why they did what they did but not to blame the state government of Kano.
He added that maybe the security was only doing their work to ensure the Emir leaves the Palace and his family were not hurt but not acting the script of the Kano state government.
He alleged that intruders were suspected to have infiltrated the palace to bring chaos and that must have necessitated the action of the security agents and in the overall interest of avoiding the breakdown of law and order.
He chides the legal team to the deposed Emir to get their fact straight before accusing the Kano state government of banishing Emir Sanusi, instead they should approach the Security agencies for an explanation, the Attorney General explained.
Meanwhile, he noted that ”banishment of Emirs in the aftermath of their deposition is an old tradition which dates back to the colonial era.
“You cannot have two Emirs at a time,” he stated.
