The 36 state governors in Nigeria has recommended a two-week national inter-state lockdown to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the Nation. This was made known after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed 117 new coronavirus cases in a meeting by the governors on 22nd April 2020.
State governors called for the decentralization of the COVID-19 response at the best chance of nipping the spread of the pandemic. This was issued by the Nigeria Governors' Forum (NFG) chairman and governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi.
Governors also agreed in setting up COVID-19 committees at the regional level, headed by various State Commissioners of Health in view to strengthening coordinated implementation of necessary public health recommendations across states, and also ensuring health workers are appropriately trained on the use of protective gears and are provided with personal protective equipment(PPE).
Members also conveyed their condolence to President Mohammadu Buhari and to the people of Borno over the passing of the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, who passed away 17th April 2020 in the line of duty to the country.
