The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) national convention scheduled for tomorrow October 30 will hold as planned. This followed the decision of the three-man Appeal Panel sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to dismiss an interlocutory injunction suit filed by PDP’s embattled former national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, seeking to stop the convention from holding. Delivering the judgement, Justice Gabriel Kolawole said Secondus’ suit before it was as after-thought and abuse of court process.
The court blamed him for dragging his feet and not acting when his ward and local governments suspended him until now. The judge also held that Secondus did not oppose the notice of convention written by the acting chairman to INEC and did not also oppose INEC replying to the PDP through the acting chairman.
Kolawole held that the attempt by the applicant to suspend the planned convention is an act of “self-induced urgency” to disrupt an ongoing lawful process of the party.
The court therefore granted the PDP the right to hold its national convention as scheduled.
Tayo Oyetibo, counsel to Secondus, said the outcome of the main appeal which is challenging the removal of his client as chairman of the PDP, would determine whether or not they will appeal.
