The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris on Friday warned new Police Constables against corrupt practices and other illegalities that could bring the Force to disrepute or terminate. The IGP gave the warning during the passing out ceremony of 854 constables from the Police College, Orji River, Enugu state.
The IGP who was represented by the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in charge of Research and Planning, Valentine Ntomchukwu warned that the Force would apply the law to the later on any erring personnel. He urged them to discharge their duties professionally and in accordance with the standard operational guidelines.
“You must put in your best to ensure that you discharge your duties faithfully as the expectations of the public from you are high. The police cannot afford to disappoint the public by allowing crime and criminality to thrive."
"You will be confronted with a lot of challenges, some friendly and others hostile. You may be faced with a situation where you are requested to bend the rules for either financial or material benefits. No matter what the promises are, you should not succumb to such demands“ the DIG added.
The Commandant of the College, Anthony Ogboji had earlier commended the Constables on their resilience and dedication to duty and assured that they would contribute significantly to the protection of lives and properties in the country as well as uphold the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He said during the course of the training, they were equipped with all knowledge on policing law and constitution.
“Here are crops of professionally trained and groomed constables, endowed with youthful zeal and energy to serve our dear nation at the pressing time when their service is greatly needed’’ he said.
