As the 2023 General election draws nearer, the zoning of candidates in the All Progressive Congress (APC) party is yet to get a direction as President Buhari is yet to make his opinion clear. Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun raise the concern today on behalf of the progressive after paying a thank you visit to President Buhari for honoring his invitation to commission some of his projects in his state. There has been tension in the ruling party in recent times, partly over which zone should pick the presidential ticket and the anticipated outcome of the National Congress of the party that is around the corner, come February 22, 2022.

Vigil360 reported that there has been bickering within the progressives over zoning of the National Working Committee (NWC) offices as well as the 2023 elective tickets that are waiting to be grabbed.

Governor Abiodun said he was confident, president Buhari who stood for equity and fairness would soon redirect the compass of the party to the promised land.

When the Governor was asked of his opinion concerning the upcoming General Election, he said, the zoning formula is one area that all party members are interested in and have been engaging in negotiating behind the scene; but said he was confident the position of the party will be made known after the National Executive Council (NEC) approves.

According to the governor, after INEC approval, the party will have a direction.

He disclosed, “I will be hesitant to delve into the details of this question because, one, I’m not in any position or capacity to advise the party. I am a governor, I am a member of the party and I will continue to be guided by the party leadership and in line with party discipline.

“We have a President in place, we are the party that’s in government, our President is the leader of the party. I believe that His Excellency, Mr. President, will continue to offer us the guidance that’s required and will do that which we need to do under his leadership.

He noted, he was just one member of the party who lack the capacity to decide a direction for the party being a mere governor, as the party has a leader in the person of President Buhari.

Meanwhile, the Governor explained “We are aware that the party is working on zoning and when that is formalized and ratified by NEC, then it will be made public so we’ll know where the chairman of the party will come from, we’ll know where the President will come from and things will evolve in their own time,”
