Lagos By-Election: Vehicular Movement Restricted Only In Surulere – Police

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun had on Thursday imposed restrictions on movements – from 12:00 am to 6:00 pm – in areas in 26 states of the federation where by-elections and run-off polls are set to be held on Saturday.

26 States Prepares For Bye-Elections

In the build-up to the bye-elections scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday, 3 February 2024, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun has ordered for the restriction of all types of vehicular movement on roads, waterways etc from 12 am to 6 pm on the election day. Excluded from this restriction are those on essential duties such of officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers, accredited journalists, security personnel on election duty, amongst a few others.

Supreme Court Reserves Judgment On Binani's Suit Against Gov Fintiri

The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in the appeal by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its governorship candidate, Aisha Dahiru, popularly called Binani, against the governor of Adamawa state, Ahmadu Fintiri. The tribunal and Court of Appeal had dismissed Binani’s petition challenging the victory of Finitiri in the governorship election held last year. The Apex Court deferred final judgment after fierce legal fireworks by the legal team of the Governorship candidate, led by Akin Olujinmi, SAN, and those of Governor Fintiri, headed by Damian Dodo, SAN. The five-member panel led by John Okoro adjourned the matter for judgment after listening to the arguments of the parties involved in the matter.

President Tinubu Travels To France For Private Visit

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday departed Abuja for France, a trip the State House described as a "private visit". A statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, said the President will return to Nigeria in the first week of February. "President Bola Tinubu departs Abuja for Paris, France, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, for a private visit.

INEC Entreats NAF Support to Airlift Election Materials for By-Election

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, has solicited the support of the Nigerian Air Force in airlifting election materials for the February 3 rerun and by-elections. This request was made bare by Yakubu during a visit to the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, on Monday in Abuja. The commission will conduct by-elections and re-run elections in 26 states of the federation on Saturday. In nine states, by-elections will be held to replace members of national and state assemblies who have passed away or resigned, resulting in the need to elect two senators, four members of the House of Representatives, and three members of the state Houses of Assembly. In other states, re-run elections will take place at designated constituencies or polling units as ordered by the election appeal tribunals.

Kogi: Ododo Sworn In As Governor

Usman Ododo, winner of the November 2023 gubernatorial election in Kogi state has been sworn in as the governor. Ododo who took the oath of office at around 2:24 pm in Lokoja on Saturday 27th January 2024 won the November polls with 446,237 votes, defeating the closest rival, Murtala Ajaka, Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 259,052, and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 46,362 votes.

Major Shakeup Hits Ondo State Gov. Cabinet

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa has appointed Olayide Owolabi Adelami as the  Deputy Governor of the state, dissolves the State Executive Council. The Governor also terminated the appointments of all Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) and Special Assistants (SAs). As revealed in a statement by the state chief press secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, "All members of the cabinet are to hand over to the permanent secretaries of the most senior administrative officers in their respective offices." He then added that "the Governor thanks the affected officials for their services and contributions to the development of the State.”
