Google, the largest and most popular search engine in the world, is celebrating Nigeria on its website on Saturday with a special doodle as voting for the next president of the nation gets underway. The election will see the emergence of a new leader, who will take over affairs of the nation from President Muhammadu Buhari. United States President, Joe Biden has called for the peaceful conduct of the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, urging candidates and parties to accept the results as announced by the country's electoral commission. 

Upcoming Polls: IGP Issues Election Day Protocols

In preparation for the upcoming elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 25, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba has ordered a restriction of all forms of vehicular movement except those on essential services and also banned police escorts from following their principals and politicians to polling booths. This was made known on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

2023 Elections: Only 87.2m Nigerians Are Eligible To Vote - INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that only 87.2m Nigerians are cleared to participate in the forthcoming elections. The Commission stated that 93.5 million Nigerians registered for their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and only 87.2 million voters have collected theirs as of February 5 deadline for card collection.

Presidential Candidates Sign Second Peace Pact Ahead Of Election

Presidential candidates of 18 political parties converged at the International Conference Centre in the nation's capital on 22nd February 2023, to sign a pact towards a peaceful election come 25th February 2023. Among the presidential candidates present were Bola Tinubu (APC); Peter Obi (LP), Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Rabiu Kwankwaso (NNPP), and Dan Nwanyanwu (ZLP). The peace pact is the second in the last five months, was organized and coordinated by the National Accord for Peace under the chairmanship of a former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar.
