The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senate Caucus on Wednesday, met with the party’s, minority leaders of State Assemblies, assuring that the party was stronger and set to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC), from power in 2019.

The Nigerian Ports Authority NPA has said that termination of pilotage monitoring agreement with Intels Nigeria Ltd would not affect anything as far as pilotage supervision services are concerned. Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman assured workers involved in boat services who may be affected by the termination of contract with Intels that they will be absorbed by the new management.

The Senate has summoned the Minister of Solid Minerals, Dr Kayode Fayemi, to brief it on nigeria’s mining policy, implementation framework and protection.

The minister is also expected to brief the upper chamber on how the ministry intended to ensure protection of the residents of mining host communities against lead poisoning and other hazards.

President Muhammadu Buhari as approved the payment of pension to dismissed police officers who served in the defunct Biafra Police during the 30-month Nigeria civil war before they were granted presidential pardon in 2000. The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) Wednesday announced that about 162 of such retired police officers and 57 Next of Kin of those who have died will be paid their pension benefits in the first phase of the payment with effect from Friday, October 20, 2017 in Enugu.

The House of Representatives has called on the federal Government to take immediate steps to tackle extreme poverty in the country.

The call was by Rep. Muhammed Wudil (Kano-APC) at plenary following the unanimous adoption of an Urgent Motion of National Importance.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday expressed concern on the growing complaints and agitations by workers in states over unpaid salaries and allowances, in spite of interventions by the Federal Government. The President made his feelings known when he received a group of governors led by the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Abdul’Aziz Yari, at the State House, Abuja.
