Call For Igbo IGP: Appointment Not By Ethnicity – Presidency Chide Proponents

The presidency has rebuked those calling for Igbo Inspector General of Police (IGP), that appointment is not by ethnicity but by the ability of the officer to serve the country. This was made known today by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, while reacting to the advocators of Igbo IGP in the country. Garba Shehu was speaking on Channels Television program, “Sunrise Daily” this morning. The call has hit the roof in the last one week following the winding down of the present IGP, Abubakar Adamu, after attaining the 35 years mandatory service as required by Nigerian law.

NIMC Staff Suspend Proposed Strike

The Senior Staff Association of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC has suspended its proposed strike action. This followed a meeting between the Union and the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. ISA Ali Pantami on Wednesday.

President Muhammadu Buhari at the time of filing this report presiding over the 32nd virtual Federal Executive Council, (FEC), meeting at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja. Physically present at the meeting are Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Boss Mustapha, Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari and the National Security Adviser, NSA, Maj. Kogi Bye-Election: PDP Declared Winner As Court Sacks APC Lawmaker

A Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice Inyang Ekwo on Friday sacked a member of the All Progressives Congress representing Ibaji constituency in Kogi State House of Assembly, Atule Egbunu. The legislator, who had been declared the winner of a bye-election on account of his 8, 515 votes, was sacked on the grounds that he was unlawfully nominated by the APC.

COVID-19: Ortom Tests Positive

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has tested positive for COVID-19, the Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase disclosed. The Governor’s health status was made known in a statement on Wednesday in Makurdi, saying he has already commenced treatment. According to Mr. Akase, the Governor had isolated himself after a number of his aides he had contacts with tested positive for the virus. The statement reads in part; “Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom says the latest result of his COVID-19 test has returned positive. This follows the test results of most of the Governor’s close aides who also returned positive in the last few weeks.
