New NYSC DG Unveils 5 Point Agenda

The newly appointed Director-General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Y. D. Ahmed unveiled his 5-point agenda at the NYSC Headquarters, Abuja on Monday during the handing-over ceremony with the outgoing acting DG, Christy Uba .

NYSC DG: President Buhari Appoints Ahmed

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Brig. Gen. Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed as the Director-General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The newly appointed DG is expected to take over from the first female NYSC DG, Christy Uba on Monday, January 30, 2023.

Naira Notes: Reps Threatens Warrant Of Arrest For Emefiele

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila has threatened to invoke the provisions of section 89(D) of the 1999 Constitution as amended to compel the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emiefele to appear before the House. Section 89 gives the parliament power to issue a warrant of arrest on anybody who refuses to honour an invitation from them. The House had invited the CBN and bank directors over the January 31, 2023 deadline for the validity of old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes but the apex bank and managing directors of commercial banks refused to heed the invitation by the green chamber. Gbajabiamila, in a statement on Thursday, noted that the CBN and the bank chiefs, by shunning the invitation of the House, insulted the authority and prerogatives of the people’s parliament. “This is unacceptable,” he said.

Oyetola vs Adeleke: Osun Election Tribunal To Deliver Judgement On Friday

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Osun State will, on Friday, deliver judgement on the petition filed before it by former governor, Adegboyega Oyetola. Oyetola and All Progressives Congress, APC, are challenging the outcome of the July 16 poll, alleging irregularities in 749 polling units across 10 local government areas of the state, and the declaration of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Ademola Adeleke, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the election which was conducted on July 16, 2022.

INEC Extends PVC Collection Date

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) by an additional one week, hence bringing the end of the collection process to 5th February 2023, as disclosed by the INEC's National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye. INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, had on Friday said his meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) will deliberate on the ongoing collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) in its 774 Local Government Offices nationwide.

Abia state governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Professor Uche Ikonne is reportedly dead. The death of the former Vice Chancellor of Abia State University was announced on Wednesday in a statement by his son, Dr. Chikezie Uche-Ikonne.

President Buhari Seeks Senate Confirmation Of PSC Chairman, Others

President Muhammadu Buhari has requested that the Senate confirms the appointment of a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC). The President’s request was contained in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan which stated that the appointment is in line with sections 153 (1) and 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
