The outspoken Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose has beckoned on former President Olusegun Obasanjo to submit himself for probe by the Muhammadu Buhari led administration and clear his name and stop raising unnecessary alarm.

Governor Fayose made the comment in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, while reacting to the former President's allegations that the Federal Government is plotting to silence him, using false witnesses to indict and possibly arrest him.

"There is no need to raise alarm. Obasanjo at a time said President Buhari is best for Nigeria. So now, President Buhari is telling the whole world that Obasanjo stole money. Obasanjo should go and clear his name," Fayose said.

The state governor was curious as to why Obasanjo is afraid and that he should not make his predicament a Yoruba issue, adding that it was good that he was being served the "goodies" of the Buhari administration, he promoted in the 2015 elections.

"To me, former President Obasanjo should submit himself for probe and trial. He gave us the impression that he is a brave man who is not afraid of anything. He is a retired General in the army who has seen a lot and should not be raising alarms now. Obasanjo said President Buhari was the best for Nigeria while promoting him for the 2015 general elections."

Fayose added that in Obasanjo's book 'Under My Watch' that he (Obasanjo) stressed that he prefers to be jailed by Buhari rather than for former President Goodluck Jonathan to be re-elected into office. But that now he is trying to dodge going to prison. Obasanjo was still the one that set up the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) among others, so therefore he should not be scared to be probed over alleged mismanagement of funds.

“Obasanjo even used those bodies to hound and lock up many people including state governors, why is he now afraid of being probed. Let him tell Nigerians how he made his money. People can recollect the level he was before he became president and how he left office. If Buhari is now telling the whole world that Obasanjo stole money, it is incumbent on Obasanjo to prove his innocence.

Mr Fayose’s scuffle with the former president has failed to end with the governor seizing every opportunity to hit back at Mr Obasanjo.

Mr Fayose was impeached in 2006 for alleged corruption, an ouster believed to have been orchestrated by the Obasanjo federal government.

He later got his impeachment quashed by the Supreme Court.
