The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki has cleared the air on claims by Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) that the Senate is planning to increase the allowances of lawmakers in the Red Chamber.
Saraki in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on New Media, Olu Onemola, described the allegation as untrue. The statement which was posted on his verified Twitter handle urged the public to disregard it.
The tweet reads
Dear @SERAPNigeria, there is no such “alleged decision” to increase the allowances of Senators. An organization like yours needs to be more careful, especially when pushing out information meant for public consumption. Thank you. https://t.co/GwIH6zXjVw

To avoid any doubt: there is no plan to amend the allowances of Senators. The tweet by @SERAPNigeria is baseless and untrue. The public should disregard this ENTIRELY.
