President Buhari made this statement through his Special Assistance on Media, Garba Shehu.

The President warned against hate speech, incitement of violence and polarising statements by some political leaders at some states slated to participate in the process of the supplementary election which were declared inconclusive by the INEC.

According to Buhari, some past Nigeria leaders were known for their antecedent of interfering in inconclusive elections, noting that this has accounted for “why some party members appear to be disenchanted that why is the same thing not repeating itself now” however, president Buhari reminded them that they promised Nigerians “Change”.

He noted he swore to protect the constitution and has remained focus on that.

Shehu revealed the Constitution of Nigeria did not gives the president such powers to interfere in any election matter, stressing that it was unfair for any individual or group and also ridiculous to criticise Buhari for doing what is right especially as against protecting the constitution.

In his statement, “Interestingly, while members of the ruling APC were criticising the President for not interfering on their behalf, members of the opposition were raising an eyebrow on the president based on assumptions that he would definitely interfere, as they are guilty of the crime while they were in power.
