The Niger Delta Elder statesman, Edwin Clark has yesterday advised the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to accept in good faith the collective decision of the House of Representative over the nomination of Ndudi Elumelu as the Minority Leader of the House of Representative.
Clark gave this advice in his Abuja residence while attending to a journalist who paid him a courtesy call.
According to the Elder, the members of the House of Reps reserve the right to determine who leads them in their affairs but not a political Party.
The PDP on Friday suspended Ndudi Elumelu (the House of Reps Minority Leader) and six others over what they described as gross misconduct and insubordination to the party when Elumelu accepted to be the Minority leader.
The Elder statesman urged the PDP to put on its thinking cap and faces the opposition business rather than creating bad blood amongst itself.
He opined that Democracy should be allowed to thrive against all odds in this country and institutions be given free hand to do their job as expected by law, there is no law in either PDP or anywhere that said PDP should nominate people and give to the House for leadership position.
As it were, “The National Assembly has rules and regulations. Rule 8 says that elected members of the House, whether they are majority or minority, should sit among themselves and elect their members.
‘’They didn’t say one political party should nominate people for the chairman or secretary to come and submit to National Assembly. I don’t think there is anything like that. But the party has to be in the know, I agree; we should be thinking about major things.
Clark suggested that the PDP has a greater task ahead more than trivialities; instead, they should face how to fix bigger issues in the country that require more attention.
