Friday, the 18th October 2019 is a day to be remembered in Kogi State as the Assembly has removed Simon Achuba, the Deputy Governor of the state.

Mr Achuba was removed after the committee set up to investigate the allegations of misconduct levelled against him submitted its report.

The seven-man committee reported to Mathew Kolawole, Speaker of the Assembly, on Friday, 18th October 2019 after which the House went into a closed-door session where the report was deliberated upon.

It can be recalled that the House commenced impeachment proceedings against Achuba on August 7th, 2019.

According to Bello Abdullahi, majority leader, the house received a petition against Achuba after which the lawmakers commenced impeachment proceedings.

Abdulahi, representing Ajaokuta state constituency disclosed that Achuba was impeached after careful consideration of the report submitted by the committee.

He added that the report was received, studied and deliberated upon and a unanimous decision was arrived at to remove Achuba.

Also, earlier when he received the report, Kolawole Matthew, the speaker, lauded the committee for “doing its assignment without yielding to interference from any quarter”.
