Following his resignation from the All Progressive Congress (APC), the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki said he is yet to decide on which party he should join in pursue of his re-election bid.
There were speculation and rumor that the embattled governor held a secret meeting with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwarts after paying a visit to the South-South governors.
Obaseki did not find it easy these days when his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole has been in disagreement with him for some time now, the action that leads to his disqualification from the APC gubernatorial primaries last week.
The governor said his concern now is how to salvage the state from the pandemic coronavirus from further spreading.
Recall, APC disqualified Obaseki from contesting in the party’s primary election ahead of the September gubernatorial election in Edo state, an action that has left many with unanswered questions considering it was the same party that cleared him his first tenure.
The APC claimed there were inconsistencies in his credentials when they came back to screen him for his second term.
The governor yesterday took to his twitter handle @GovernorObaseki to declare his resignation from the party but stressed his commitment to working in the interest of Edo people.
The statement reads, “I have officially resigned my membership of the All Progressive Congress (@OfiicialAPCNg) after meeting with the CoS to @MBuhari.
“We shall continue the battle to protect the interest of Edo people and sustain good governance in the state.
“I have not moved to a new platform yet to seek re-election.
“My focus now is to control the spread of the coronavirus (#COVID-19) pandemic, which is ravaging our country and threatening our healthcare system.
Stay safe” he ended.
Obaseki and the APC National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole has been on a loggerhead over Obaseki’s bid to contest for the second term the feud that has left the party divided in the state.
The faction loyal to Oshiomhole has unanimously endorsed Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as its consensus candidate for the June 22 governorship primary election of the party in the state.
Obaseki demanded that Oshiomhole should excuse himself from partaking in the nomination process of the primary election of the party.
