The Special Adviser to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, has disclosed what prompted Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state to suddenly start praising the President.

Governor Wike had recently in an open letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as the President of all Nigerians and thanking him for the release of N78.9 billion belonging to the state.

Accordingly, the Buhari-led Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved the refund of over N78 billion to the River state government being the money expended on the maintenance of the Federal Roads in the state.

The approval for the refund was made during the third virtual FEC meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, led by Buhari himself. However, Governor Wike in his appreciation letter titled “Wike vindicates Buharists’ addressed to President and was published on his website on Friday, Adesina said, Wike might not have praised President Buhari for the money but for the fairness and justice which have touched him in a positive way.

Adesina said, it could be that Governor Wike has been playing a curious kind of politics all along with peeping through to establish what kind of personality Buhari actually was, but now he has realized it for himself. He expressed surprise on why Governor Wike who was a bold critic of President Buhari would suddenly start inviting the President to his state while still an opposition.

Adesina continued while talking to President Buhari sometime ago, Wike said his state is the only state Buhari has refused to pay a refund for federal Government project executed, because he (Wike) do not go to see him in the night, and I won’t go. He is not my friend, Wike declared. He said, “When about 20 people were killed on New Year Day 2018, in Omoku area of the state, and the President wanted to visit, Wike demurred. “The circle has turned fully round, and Governor Wike is inviting the President to visit. He says he’s ‘a President for every State of the Federation and all Nigerians.’ Wonderful!
