The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the People Democratic Party's (PDP) candidate Godwin Obaseki as the Governor-elect of the 2020 Edo Election after he emerged victorious against APC'sIze-Iyamu and 13 others. The result of the election was announced on Sunday by INEC's Returning Officer, Prof. Akpofure Rim-Rukeh who stated that the former APC governorship flag bearer secured 307,955 votes as against his closest rival, OsagieIze-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who got 223,619 votes.
Obaseki, under the umbrella of APC who defeated Ize-Iyamu who contested under PDP in 2016 defected to the PDP on 16th of June 2020, under which he went on to defeat the APC gubernatorial candidate Ize-Iyamu in the just-concluded September 19 elections.
