A property belonging to the former governor of Kano state Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been sealed off by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The property is situated on Miller road in Kano metropolis. EFCC has been investigating the former governor over an allegation of diversion of local government funds amounting to N3.08 billion. Kwankwaso, two-term former governor of the state, who also represented Kano Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly between 2011 and 2015, had his property seized following a petition sent to the EFCC by some family members of Ismaila Gwarzo, a former national security adviser during the late Sani Abacha administration.

One Barrister Mustapha Danjuma on behalf of Engineer Abubakar Maisha’ani and Alhaji Najumai Garba Kobo had alleged in the petition that Kwankwaso received contributions of N70 million from each of 44 local government councils in Kano State.

The petition revealed that the amount from the 44 local government councils totalled N3.08 billion. It was further revealed the money was allegedly channelled towards his presidential primary in 2015. This had brought Kwankwaso under investigation by the EFCC.

A source close to Kwankwaso claimed the building in question is the hospital complex the former governor donated to the state government to serve as an isolation centre during the COVID-19 pandemic, which the state government said they knew nothing about.
