The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has congratulated the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta on his re-election. The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Acting President, Laolu Akande who made this known on his Twitter handle disclosed that the congratulatory message was contained in a letter signed by the Acting President.

He quoted the Acting President as saying “I have the honour on behalf of the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to congratulate you on your successful re-election as the President of the Republic of Kenya. Permit me, therefore, to use this momentous occasion to reiterate Nigeria’s support and cooperation with Kenya in our collective determination to advance the development of Africa and its people.’’

Prof. Osinbajo also wished Kenyatta a successful new term in office.

Recall that on Friday, Kenya's electoral body declared Kenyatta the winner of the Presidential election after he pulled over 54% of the ballots cast. His rival, Raila Odinga rejected the result, describing the exercise as rigged. Since Friday, Odinga's supporters have engaged in violent protest especially around their strongholds. The protest has led to the death of at least 24 persons according to Kenya Human Rights Commission.
