President Muhammadu Buhari is seeking the Senate’s confirmation of 19 nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). President Buhari’s request was contained in a letter read by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan during Tuesday’s plenary session which stated that he was renewing the appointment of 5 RECs while the remaining 14 are new appointments.
The 5 RECs seeking reappointments are Ibrahim Abdullahi (Adamawa State), Obo Effanga (Cross River State), Samuel Egwu (Kogi State), Agboke Olaleke (Ogun State), and Umar Ibrahim (Taraba State).
The 14 new appointments are Uzochukwu Chijoke (Anambra State), Hudu Yunusa (Bauchi State), Agundu Tersoo (Benue State), Yomere Oritsemlebi (Delta State), Agu Uchenna (Enugu State), Elizabeth Agwu (Ebonyi State), Ahmed Garki (FCT) and Pauline Ugochi (Imo State).
Others are Yahaya Ibrahim (Kaduna State), Nura Ali (Kano State), Zango Abdu (Katsina State), Ayobami Salami (Oyo State), and Muhammad Bashir (Sokoto State), and Mohammed Nura (Yobe State).
