The former governor of Edo State Adams Oshiomhole has tasked the people of Delta State to ask its governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa what happened to the 250 billion naira from the accrued 13 percent derivation of the oil revenue being paid to all oil-rich state by President Muhammadu Buhari. It could be noted that the 13 percent derivation fund comes from the revenue to oil-rich communities through the state governments as enshrined in section 162, sub-section 2 of the Nigerian constitution.
Speaking over the weekend at the state All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship and presidential campaign rally, at the Warri township stadium, the former national chairman of the party charged Deltans to ask Governor Okowa where their share of the money was.

"Go and ask Okowa, where is our N250 billion, Edo state got N100 billion, where is our N250 billion from the 13 percent oil derivation? You didn't tell us the federal government gave you such money, now where is the money? Did you use it for your vice-presidential election race? This is the question you indigenes of Delta state should be asking your governor, Ifeanyi Okowa now," Oshiomhole said.

Also speaking, the APC state governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections and deputy senate president, Ovie Omo-Agege, assured that when elected as governor, he would work with Bola Tinubu, who is vying to become the President to ensure that Warri port is functional and that the school of maritime academy in Okorenkoko in the state starts working.

Omo-Agege told the APC presidential candidate, Tinubu that the people of Delta state are Christians who are not treacherous. "We are Christians and we do not betray but the latest betrayer of the South happened to be the governor of Delta State. He is a replica of Judas Iscariot and if he does not want to commit suicide like Judas Iscariot, he should immediately step down from that ill-fated vice-presidential race he is pursuing. Our people are very angry, they want development but rather than develop the state, all we hear are loans and more loans. All Deltans and those unborn are now indebted as a result of Okowa's recklessness."

Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike on Friday during the inauguration of the Nabo Graham Douglas campus of the Nigerian Law School in Rumueme, Port Harcourt, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving the payment of the funds which has been the major source of infrastructural development of his administration.

He added that while other presidents since 1999 held on to the 13 percent derivation funds, Buhari approved its release but the governor was not clear about the money he accused other presidents of withholding.

Wike said, “Let me say it for the first time. So many people asked me: ‘where is he getting this money’? Let me say it. I want, through the Attorney-General of the Federation, to thank Mr. President.

Monies that were not paid to the Niger Delta states since 1999 the 13 percent deductions monies were not paid, Mr. President approved and paid all of us from the Niger Delta states. And for me, it would be unfair not to tell the public. It is not from FAAC (Federation Account Allocation Committee) money. It is the money that is supposed to be for Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Bayelsa states.

"Yesterday, we commissioned the ninth flyover. In December, we will commission the tenth flyover. By February next year, we will commission the eleventh and twelfth flyovers. So, I want to sincerely from the heart and on behalf of the government and people of the state, thank Mr. President for this, because as an opposition government, he could have said ‘don’t pay. You can’t do anything. Since 1999, the money has not been paid. Did we do anything? So, I want to sincerely thank him,” Wike had stated.
