A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) resume the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise at least 90 days before the 2023 General Election. The presiding judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo declared, “The case of the plaintiffs succeeds on merit”.
According to reports, the plaintiffs, one Anajat Salmat and 3 others filed a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1343/2022, arguing that INEC cannot stop the CVR exercise before the time stipulated by the Constitution.
The plaintiffs urged the court to direct INEC to resume the exercise in accordance with the provisions of the law.
Justice Ekwo also directed the electoral body to ensure that Nigerians have the opportunity to acquire the voter’s card for the forthcoming election.
