A Court of Appeal in Yola, Adamawa state has restored Aishatu Binani, a senator representing Adamawa Central, as the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State. The judgment delivered by a 3-man panel of Justices also ordered that her name be forwarded immediately to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s governorship candidate for the state.
Previously, in October, a Federal High Court had nullified the Adamawa State APC primary which witnessed the emergence of Binani as the party’s governorship candidate.
Binani polled the highest votes and defeated a former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, and a former governor of the state, Jibrilla Bindow at the party’s primary held on May 26, 2022.
Ribadu filed a suit with the High Court, challenging the outcome of the primary elections, alleging vote-buying; amongst other allegations.
The presiding judge, Abdulaziz Anka nullified the governorship primary election of the state and declared that there would be no APC candidate for the state’s 2023 governorship elections.
