President Buhari Seeks Senate Confirmation Of PSC Chairman, Others

President Muhammadu Buhari has requested that the Senate confirms the appointment of a former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Solomon Arase as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC). The President’s request was contained in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan which stated that the appointment is in line with sections 153 (1) and 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution as amended.


If confirmed by the Senate, he would succeed Musiliu Smith as the Commission’s chairman.

In a similar development, President Buhari is also seeking the senate’s confirmation of 2 Residential Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC); Dr. Mahmuda Isah (Kebbi State) whose appointment is for renewal and a new appointment for Dr. Mann Omobayi Alli (Ondo State).
