African Democratic Congress, ADC, has adopted Peter Obi, Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate as its candidate for the 25 February elections and has also promised to collapse its structures for the Labour Party aspirants. A faction of the ADC has on Monday in Abuja adopted Peter Obi as its preferred candidate having expelled their own.

According to the Chairman, of ADC’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Mani Ibrahim, "Today, we come together as a family and as a formidable third force: our grand patrons and BoT members, our National Executive Council, and our National Working Committee.

“Our Diaspora Network and our National Youth Council are also involved to take a stand in solidarity, moving forward for the viable presidential candidate the entire nation is clamouring for.

“After due diligence and critical assessment of the 17 presidential candidates and what they offer and after consulting our grand patron, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, we decided that the Obi-Datti movement is a worthy cause to endorse.

“Today, we form this star alliance for one purpose only: to ensure a loud victory."

Mani Ibrahim also added that the ADC was not alone in this, that its star alliance partners with the Nigerian Mothers for Good Governance, the Fulani United, Nigeria Artisans, League of Imams, Nigeria Traders, Yoruba United, Mega Political Coalition, Kanuris United, Nigeria Professional Group, DG Global Groups, Amalgamated Coalitions Groups and Nigeria Legions United.

In addition, the National Vice Chairman, ADC South-South, Elder Festus Igbinoba in Calabar disclosed to journalists they are galvanising total support for Obi.

In his words, “Of all the presidential candidates contesting for Nigeria’s presidency, we cannot but give it to Peter Obi of LP.

Since we expelled our own candidate over his conduct, we decided as a party to align ourselves with the LP presidential candidate who is the best of the three,”

The governorship candidate of ADC in Cross River State, Effiong Nyong also corroborated this position when he said: “We are entirely part of the Obidient movement. We’re canvassing votes for Peter Obi
