In preparation for the 2023 Presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 25, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive materials to its local government offices across the country. According to reports, the Commission has begun the distribution of sensitive materials from state branches of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Cross River, Edo, Lagos, Niger, amongst others.

The distribution exercise is being conducted under the heavy presence of security agencies such as the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Nigerian Army (NA), the State Security Service (SSS), amongst other security agencies.

The deployment is also being done in the presence of journalists and observers (local, international, and party officials).

Party representatives and others expressed satisfaction at INEC’s level of preparedness, adding that the materials are being distributed in a transparent manner.

Sensitive materials include the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) devices, ballot papers, result sheets, amongst others.
