President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey has called President Muhammadu Buhari to congratulate him on his recovery, a State House press release said on Saturday. The Turkish leader also exchanged Eid greetings with President Buhari as both leaders wished each other success in their endeavors.

The two leaders also discussed the forthcoming 9th Summit of D8, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation, in Istanbul in October.

According to the statement, “Mr Erdogan extended an invitation to President Buhari for his participation at the Summit.”

Buhari has since his return from a prolonged medical leave in the UK, enjoyed massive goodwill from both within Nigeria and beyond.

While he was away, prayers for his recovery had cut partisan divides with some African countries even joining in the goodwill.

Although he has regularly delegated economic matters to his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo, Buhari is most likely to attend the D8 summit to further push a burgeoning impression that he has now taken more than a passing interest in the Nigeria’s faltering economy.

Other member countries of the D-8 which has its headquarters in Istanbul are Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, and Pakistan.
