The National Chairman of Alliance for Democracy (AD), Chief Joseph Avazi has been suspended by the party's National Executive Committee (NEC) over alleged gross misconduct. The NEC took the decision on Wednesday after a crucial meeting held at Afri Hotel in Abuja. His suspension followed a vote-of-no- confidence passed against Avazi. The NEC also resolved to set up a 7-man Disciplinart Committee to investigate all allegations leveled against the embattled Chairman.
The National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Nola Olayinka who read the communiqué after the meeting also disclosed that NEC had unanimously appointed Alhaji Ayodele Ismail to act as the National Chairman pending the conclusion of investigation.
He listed some of the offences committed by the suspended Chairman to include anti-party activities, incompetence, perjury, dictatorship, lack of accountability and nepotism. The communiqué read in part “NEC passes a vote of no-confidence of the national chairman, Chief Joseph Avazi for gross misconduct and accordingly, approved his suspension forthwith. NEC approved the uniform conduct of congresses and mandated the National Working Committee (NWC) to fix a date and communicate same to all state chapters.
“NEC adopted the amended constitution of the party which was approved for amendment by the 2015 National Convention in Abuja. NEC filled the vacancy in the south-east geo-political zone for the office of zonal chairman as Mr. Perry Iloegbuna and assistant legal adviser as Barr. Ken Emekowa“
Meanwhile, attempts by Vigil360 to reach the suspended Chairman failed as his telephone lines were switched off.
