Following the decision to withdraw from Atiku's campaign train ahead of the 2023 general election and move to quit the party, a former presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Dele Momodu has cautioned the Wike camp describing their action as “political Suicide”. Momodu made this statement this morning while charting with Arise Television as a guest speaker. The main opposition PDP has been in turbulence following the outcome of the presidential primary election that returned Atiku Abukar as the flag bearer of the party.

The emergence of the Adamawa-born politician did not go down well with Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike; he is yet to recover from the shock of the outcome.

Subsequently, being a major stakeholder of the party, many thought that he was going to make it to the vice president as a strong contender and diehard of the party, however, he received another shock of his life that Atiku settled for the Delta state Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa.

Governor Wike's camp includes; Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo; Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue; Jerry Gana, former minister of information, who since the tension started in the party have stood their ground that the national party chairman, Iyorcha Ayu must resign to pave way for a southern candidate for a balance of power.

Yesterday, the camp declares their withdrawal from Atiku’s campaign train saying until their demands are met otherwise they will not participate in the general election.

Reaction to the event as it unfold, Dele Momodu said Wike and his camp cannot afford to walk away from the PDP just like that because they have a lot at stake.

He explained that the decision will not auger well with them considering their position in the party as they have a lot at stake they cannot just wish away.

In his statement, “I want to publicly appeal to them again. If they decide to go, it’s within their rights. Nobody can stop any grown man from making a decision,” Momodu said.

“If their decision is to throw their support behind a candidate of another party, it is fine. But honestly, this is my opinion, it will be political suicide. That’s the truth because they have so much at stake.

Momodu added, “Will Governor Seyi Makinde [of Oyo state] say ‘during the presidential election, don’t vote for PDP; during the governorship, vote for me.’ It does not work that way.”
