Former chairman Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Wali Jibrin says if only every member of the party will respect the party constitution, the problem facing the party will fizzle out. The party chieftain stated this in a statement yesterday in Kaduna. Since the emergence of the former vice president Atiku Abubakar as the flag bearer of PDP shortly after the party primaries that produced him during the month of may in Abuja, the party has ever been at ease with itself.
There have been calls from River state Governor, Nyesom Wike's camp demanding the resignation of the party chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to pave way for a southern candidate, saying that the presidential candidate and the National Chairman of the party cannot come from the same region.
Describing the party crisis as a family matter, Jibrin said despite the odd, the party will get out strong and will also win the 2023 general election.
In his statement, partly reads, “I want to assure Nigerians that what is happening in PDP is never a problem, but a normal family matter that would be solved very soon”.
He said, “Never, ever mention that PDP has any problem. We shall soon take over from the ruling party. Nigeria shall move forward.”
He called on party members that despite the misunderstanding, they should remain united if they want to wrestle power from the APC come 2023 and shun things that are capable of dividing the party.
He added, “All our elders, leaders, youths, and all women groups in the party must speak with one voice and avoid creating any division”.
“Once an issue has been discussed and agreed upon, all members must abide by it.
Jibrin explained that “All members of the party, no matter what, must accept the decisions taken by the NWC and avoid a situation whereby some few members will come out to make contrary statements.
“All members of our party, no matter their positions, must accept that PDP constitution which is supreme and above all party members.”
He applauded the governors that despite the hitches have agreed to work together, recalling that during his time as BoT chairman, he resigned his position in the interest of the unity of the party, urging them to emulate the same.
He called on the party stakeholders; “We should never be sectional at all. If I left my position to allow others, based on my concern for Nigeria and our party to be stronger, I have no regret of relinquishing my position”.
