The newly sworn-in Governor of Osun state Ademola Adeleke yesterday dethroned three monarchs appointed by his predecessor, Governor Adegboyiga Oyetola pending review of their appointment. In his new executive order 5, the governor reversed the appointment of Akinrun of Ikinrun, Aree of Ire, and Owa of Igbado, ordering security operatives to seal their palaces. The new Owa of Igbajo, Oba Adegboyega Famodun, was appointed and installed as Oba just a week before former Governor Oyetola’s tenure rounded up, he was also the immediate past chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Just before he left, Oyetola also approved the appointment of thirty (30) permanent secretaries in Ministries and agencies in the state.
However, the new Governor while speaking yesterday through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the Governor ordered that he has reversed all employment approved by Oyetola in all Ministries, departments, and Agencies, MDAs, after July 17,m 2022.
The governors also declared that the thrones of Akirun of Akirun, Aree of Iree, and Owa of Igbajo are hereby suspended pending the outcome of a committee of inquiry to review their appointments and subsequent installation.
Adeleke also issued five other executive orders which cover the freezing of the state bank account, staff audit, employment, appointments, and the setting up of the review committees.
He further directed heads of MDAs to carry out a holistic staff audit from July 17 2022 and to immediately submit their report to the Chief of Staff of the state the report should contain all the details of every staff of the department.
Osun state Independent National Electoral Commission, OSIEC chairman, Mr. Segun Oladitan, was also among the ones the executive order affected.
According to the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tesleem Igbalaye, the executive order was in response to several petitions filled by some concerned citizens about the rush hour activities of the former governor, Oyetola, abuse of office by some highly placed persons.
In his statement, “Pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations against the suspended chairman and members of the commission, the secretary to the commission shall hold forth in running the affairs of the commission,”
The directive also ordered the most senior careers staff of the local government to take over as heads of the council pending further directive.
He revealed that the directive was in compliance with the judgment of the Federal High Court in Osogbo which sacked the purported Local Government Chairmen and their councilors.
The All Progressive Congress, APC said it has appealed the ruling of the High Court.
According to the party media adviser, Mr. Kola Olabisi, the judgment was a temporary setback for the APC, “The development is just a temporary setback that would be redressed in an appellate court,”
