The recently suspended Deputy National Chairman (North) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Gamawa Babayo, has decamped to All Progressives Congress, APC. One of the media aides to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad made this known on Tuesday via his Twitter handle. Ahmad who posted pictures of Gamawa and the President at the Presidential Villa wrote;

“We welcome former PDP Deputy National Chairman North, Alhaji Babayo Gamawa to our great party, APC. Everybody wants to be onboard as we smoothly moving to the #NextLevel. You are all welcome!”

The defection is coming barely 24 hours after the PDP suspended him over alleged dereliction of duty. A statement by the PDP read

“The NWC found merit in the petition on an allegation of dereliction of duty and anti-party activity as contained in Section 58 (1) e, f, g, h of the PDP Constitution.

“Therefore, in the exercise of section 29 (2) a, b and c, the NWC hereby invokes Section 59 (1) d of the constitution of the PDP on the Deputy National Chairman (North) and accordingly suspends him from the party immediately,” it added.
